SSD HELP- Cloning failed?

Hi,
I was cloning my brothers slow dell laptop hdd to a new samsung 840 evo ssd 120gb and there is only 79gb of space used on his old hdd and 11 seconds into cloning it says, "Cloning failed." and we tried it over and over and samsung data migration says this. Please tell me all the steps to installing an ssd and putting the stuff on there and what went wrong and or how to fix it?
Please help.
